Ness Botanic Garden – an early autumn visit
A couple of weeks ago we made our first visit to the botanic gardens of the University of Liverpool, the ‘Ness Botanic Gardens’ on the Wirral peninsular near Liverpool. We were pleasantly surprised by the gardens and some of the views across the Dee Estuary to North Wales were magnificent.
Here is a selection of photos taken on this visit, starting with a couple of panoramic views:
Panoramic view of the Ness Botanic Garden looking roughly north west from the high point near the visitor centrePanoramic view looking roughly south west across the Dee estuary to North Wales
The colchicums (Naked Ladies) were in flower – there were many lovely examples:
A lilac Colchicum flower showing the veins in the petalsA pink/magenta Colchicum flower showing the stamens
A view of a one-sided conifer tree in the woodland area to the north of the gardens
Lovely autumnal red leaves of Sorbus Commixta ‘Olympic Flame’ A different view over the Dee Estuary to North Wales
I just loved the texture of this tree trunk of Metasequioa glyptostroboides (I photographed the name plate!)
A view of a hut from within the ‘Rock Garden’A path through the woods on the southern side of the gardens
This was a worthwhile visit and, as a bonus, it had a nice cafe – we intend to visit again!
