Here, Paul will discuss and show some of his photography.
Stokesay Castle: A Fortified Manor House
The classic view of Stokesay Castle from the path from the visitor centre: this is the ‘Gatehouse’
Earlier this month I visited Stokesay Castle – a fortified manor house in Shropshire managed by English Heritage. This was the start of a short holiday in the region. I found it a fascinating place to visit with a lot of interest: what follows is a selection of the photos I took on this visit. I intend to return later in the year.
There is a wealth of detail in the woodwork, including intricate carvings:

Stokesay Castle: Great hall and South Tower, a panoramic viewThe woodwork supporting the roof of the Great hall is just amazing. The stairs and landing lead to an upstairs roomGreat hall upstairs room roof detailThis intricate carving is above a fireplace
I do like to try and put the subject of my photos into context: This view from the South Tower shows the site in the landscape of south Shropshire:

But I also enjoy seeing the detail:

Then, on the way out, there was this view of the North Tower over the moat:

Finally, I show a #imagedump of the photos from this visit:

Well worth another visit…
