Dades Gorge: What started the Trans-Africa 1975 posts:

A few weeks ago, on my Bluesky timeline, I was amazed to see this reposted post (shown below) by Rina‬ ‪@rina2012.bsky.social‬ (https://bsky.app/profile/rina2012.bsky.social/post/3lmtuoz6ui22u) showing a recent view of Dades Gorge in the Atlas Mountains.

The reason for my amazement was that I immediately recognised the view because I have a similar photo taken in 1975 of the same view from a slightly different viewpoint. This was taken when I was on an independent overland trip through Africa. Here is my response to Rina’s post:

The road has been improved but otherwise the view looks the same.

This has made me think: I will start posting some of the photos I took on my Trans-Africa trip 50 years ago (50 years! That makes me feel old, it seems much more recent…)

This is the original photo – a digitised colour slide:

I intend, over the next few months, to show some photos from the trip I made. There are not that many to choose from – I took 10 rolls of slide film and a few rolls of black and white film. I also have copies of some of the photos taken by others on this journey through Africa.
