October visit to East Ruston Old Vicarage

This week we made another visit to these gardens:

Echeveria This visit took place on quite a windy day. Ideally we should have chosen another day but in the days previous I have been busy painting a fence whilst the weather was dry and the outlook is for rain – Hobson’s choice really! The wind meant that there were many images spoilt by the wind movement. In addition the sun was quite low in the sky which caused the sky to bleach out which also resulted in rejected images. I was left with 15 that were just about suitable for placing on the website.

The first photo shown above is of an Echeveria with a small pool of water in the centre. I liked this because the water had an almost jewel-like appearance caused in part by the waxy nature of the leaves.

In this second photo I show a Morning Glory.

morning gloryI was struck by the wonderful blue colour of this single flower – it was the only one of its kind in bloom – below you can see one that has faded. I think that being a solitary flower made it stand out in contrast to the deep green of the foliage.

This next photo shows a room that forms part of the walled garden:

room on the walled gardenI think this view of the building works because of the nature of the detail in the sky above forms a pleasant top to the image and the plants in the garden in front of it provides a base to the picture. The way the weak sun is illuminating the plant in the centre and the brickwork behind also adds to the photograph.

Finally, this was taken in the Mediterranean Garden:

seeds from a coneWe have never seen cones shedding their seeds like this before. We thought the seeds came from within the cone but here they are the whole cone just being attached from a central stem – different.

You can see the full set in the EROV gallery.
