Birds and garden: #5from7photo

Two topics this week: First is reporting problems photographing birds with my DIY motion detection rig. Second is showing some features in the garden.

Apart from the problem with my motion detection rig (the zooming of the lens causes the power to fail), there have been few birds visiting us. I think much of the problem is simply there are too many bird feeders in the locality. However I did mange to get 2 shots of this starling at the feeder. I love the colours of the plumage in the sun:

I have also been taking photos of features in the garden. We have 2 old bird cages that are used as hanging baskets. For this first one I cannot decide if the detailed first image is the best or the view of the whole cage:

I like this second bird cage as it has more detail, such as the lichens growing on the metalwork:
