Little Planet trials V2

I had another go at construction a Little Planet trying out different ways of doing it. This time I used the fish-eye lens for the full panorama including the ground. This meant that the 2 images that I took of the ground also included my feet and legs.

I had 2 ways of dealing with this: 1) Stitch all the images and patch out the feet and legs. or 2) Stitch the ground separately and patch this into the little planet.

This is a build using 3-exposure HDR sets with all the images stitched together:

E15_7781_2_3_j3tmx14_webYou can see my boot near the bottom of the grass which I patched out in Photoshop giving this final image:

E15_7781_2_3_j3tmx14p1_webNot too bad, but you will notice the tree shadow doesn’t match up very well in both the above images.

This is a plain stitch using single image jpg images including the ground:

E15_7781x14_webYou can see my boots on the right this time!

My next attempt was creating a little planet excluding the ground, stitch the ground separately then patch these together in Photoshop. I processed the images by converting the raw images to 16-bit tiff, stitching the tiff files, reading this into Photoshop then patching and adjusting to get the final result.

My first attempt gave this image:

E15_7781x12+2p1_webHere I have patched the ground in, but the panorama is wrong – part of the house is repeated on the right, along with some other stitching errors. It took me 5 goes of adding control points to get a reasonable stitch which is mostly error free:

E15_7781x12+2v5p1_webThe stitching of the ground isn’t too bad but it isn’t perfect. I need to work on this.

In addition, this set was taken with the camera closer to the ground, about 2 feet. My next try will be with the camera higher than normal.
