The first part of this leg of the journey, to Ain Salah, was relatively straightforward as there was a tarmac road to follow for much of the time although there were patches of soft, dusty sand. It was dark as you might expect being in the  middle of nowhere but the stars were amazing (no light pollution!). We were camping with another couple in a VW combi and they had a luminous Frisbee. We were throwing it to each other just by the sound of the voices &#8211; it was too dark to see &#8211; but the Frisbee just glowed green as it hovered through the air.
