It was also quite still which made a change.

This first photo is a view I hadn’t seen before. This is from the path leading from the Walled Court round to the Dutch Garden. This was hard to process as there was a lot of contrast between the deep shadows under the tree fern and the lightness of the bark of the silver birch. I am quite happy with the results though – to me this has an atmosphere or ‘feel’ to it.

This next one was taken in the Diamond Jubilee Walled Garden:

This shows the recently added archway across a path that is directly through the centre of this garden. Each side of it is full of dahlias – most noticeable in this photo are the red ones. I think the blue sky makes this image.

To the side was a self-sown Amaranthus:

It was blazing a beautiful red colour in the sunlight. What I like about this view is that it shows the location next to the archway with one of the entrances in the background. From this photo you could locate it immediately within the garden.

Finally, I show a view of the patio and glasshouse by the Dutch Garden:

There were lots of strong shadows but these are reasonably well controlled. The portrait aspect enables the glorious tree in the background to seen in full. I just love this view.

More photos taken in these wonderful gardens can be seen in the EROV gallery.

Alan Gray (one of the owners) has included some of these photos in his Twitter feed and Facebook page.

Last week we made another visit to the gardens at East Ruston Old Vicarage: It was a lovely fine, clear, sunny day – this made it a beautiful day but gave harsh shadows to the photographs.
