Although it looked OK at the time it is rather underexposed. What isn&#8217;t apparent in these versions is that I over-did the noise reduction &#8211; the images are &#8216;smeared&#8217;:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0332-compare-orig-to-crc.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4343\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0332-compare-orig-to-crc-600x463.jpg\" alt=\"campare 2 images (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"463\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0332-compare-orig-to-crc-600x463.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0332-compare-orig-to-crc-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0332-compare-orig-to-crc.jpg 715w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the left is the original jpg file, on the left is the over-processed raw as a jpg. Note that I also tried this outputting the images as 16-bit tiff files &#8211; this didn&#8217;t make any noticeable difference.<\/p>\n<p>My next test was using Lightroom to process the raw files; both into jpg and 16-bit tiff &#8211; the tiff, again, didn&#8217;t make any noticeable difference. Here, I did 2 sets of tests, the first set was processing without lens corrections, the second with.<\/p>\n<p>This didn&#8217;t seem to make any difference with one exception. Here the stitching for one pano gave this image:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/initial-stitchingv2-nolc-jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4344\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/initial-stitchingv2-nolc-jpg-600x322.jpg\" alt=\"stitching errors (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/initial-stitchingv2-nolc-jpg-600x322.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/initial-stitchingv2-nolc-jpg-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/initial-stitchingv2-nolc-jpg.jpg 1315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a screen dump from the stitching software. To eliminate this I had to re-analyse each stitch and add some more control points &#8211; it then cleaned up OK.<\/p>\n<p>So here are the Lightroom processed files stitched:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0305-lr1v3lc-jpgx18-6-errors-w.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4346\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0305-lr1v3lc-jpgx18-6-errors-w-600x95.jpg\" alt=\"Moonlight pano 1 lightroom\" width=\"600\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0305-lr1v3lc-jpgx18-6-errors-w-600x95.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0305-lr1v3lc-jpgx18-6-errors-w-300x48.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/E15_0305-lr1v3lc-jpgx18-6-errors-w.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is darker but looks like an underexposed daytime shot. There are 6 stitching errors in the pano. On thing I couldn&#8217;t correct for is the way the view slopes up on the right. I need to check that the camera is sitting square before I do this again. I haven&#8217;t attempted to re-stitch these &#8211; this is running on the default settings:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-stitching-errors.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4351\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-stitching-errors-600x385.jpg\" alt=\"2 stitching errors\" width=\"600\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-stitching-errors-600x385.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-stitching-errors-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/2-stitching-errors.jpg 864w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, what have I learnt from this exercise:<\/p>\n<p>1) I need to check the alignment of the camera<\/p>\n<p>2) Don&#8217;t overdo the noise reduction<\/p>\n<p>3) Don&#8217;t over-brighten otherwise it looks like a poor daylight photo, but increase the exposure if possible<\/p>\n<p>4) Have something in the photo that &#8216;proves&#8217; it is a night-time photo, such as light spilling from a door or window<\/p>\n<p>5) Pay careful attention to the stitching process<\/p>\n<p>6) Refocus the lens to suit the scene &#8211; the second and third of the panoramas were out of focus &#8211; sharp for the distance but out-of-focus foreground (but it doesn&#8217;t notice in these small versions shown here)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the recent night of the full moon, I tried 3 panoramic views using a 50mm lens.
