Looking at the weather forecast last week the best opportunity for us to visit was Thursday morning – showers were expected in the afternoon. Our visit started off fine and bright enabling some reasonable photography although the wind was too breezy for decent HDR photography.

The above image shows the side entrance to the larger of the glasshouses open to the public. I do like this view for the colours – not brash and bright of a summer’s day, but not dull and lifeless of an overcast day, but that beautiful, subtle palette of colours that only autumn seems to provide.

This view into the Autumn Garden also has a fine range of colours and tonality – not so subtle as in the previous image, but still having the tints of autumn. I prefer this portrait view to a landscape version that I took from the same position – it just didn’t work so I deleted it.

I like this view from the Rose Garden (previously called the Sunk Garden) looking back across the garden to the house. Some is in shade, some in sun, but a view that, to my eyes, still works.

Finally I show a view that I have taken many times before but each looks different:

This is the pond and fountain in the Exotic Garden. Considering how late in the season it is, this garden is still full of life and colour – it is one of my favourites.

The full set of photos are in the EROV Gallery.

Last Thursday we made a visit to the gardens at East Ruston Old Vicarage: Although the previous week had been fine, circumstances stopped us going.
