I pulled out my compact camera that I always carry and took two photos through the windscreen before I got out of the car.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2314\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2314\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2314\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/2012\/01\/green-woodpecker-spotted\/s12_0003\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2314\" title=\"s12_0003\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/s12_0003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/s12_0003.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/s12_0003-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 85vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2314\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Green woodpecker V2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I then got out of the car and started to walk carefully towards the bird but it flew away.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, last year about the same time, I saw a similar woodpecker doing the same thing in the same patch of grass.
