This comes under their National Lottery funded project ‘Trent Valley Past and Present’.

This was quite a learning exercise for all of us. For me the challenges were: how to light for 3 cameras with only basic, budget equipment and then how to edit it all together including syncing the audio using 3 video streams. I am reasonably satisfied with the result.

This is the final video:

I am actually looking forward to working on the next podcast having learned a lot from this one…

The following photos show the setup. Lighting was from a couple of small budget LED panels with white translucent umbrellas (a set of 2 with lighting stands, second hand for £20!). The cameras were all Fuji (more by accident than design): An older X-T3 bought refurbished, an X-T20 bought new at second hand price (old stock), and an X-M5 bought new to replace a failing compact camera – this was the main device for recording sound. The microphones were a dual pair bought for around £20 or £30. Not an expensive setup:

The 3 cameras and 2 lighting stands with translucent umbrellas

View of the arrangement from behind the central camera

Not sophisticated but it worked well enough…

In my role as a photography volunteer, I have recently completed a podcast video for Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
