Shugborough is a National Trust property with extensive grounds and parkland around the mansion. As it is our nearest National trust property with tea rooms it is our ‘go-to’ place for a walk. This visit was in early autumn as the trees were turning colour and leaves were dropping. But the weather was dull and grey which made for uninteresting skies…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Larch is a conifer tree that is unusual in that it sheds its needles as winter approaches. There are not many within the Shugborough Estate but a mile or so to the south is Cannock Chase which has many more of these trees that look beautiful in the autumn – see this post from last year: https:\/\/www.pmstudios.co.uk\/blog\/?paged=4&m=202411<\/a>. This part of Cannock Chase was part of the Shugborough estate and some of it is owned by the National Trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am not certain of the name of this next tree but I show two views from opposite sides. The path runs under the canopy near the river making it a pleasant walk:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we were walking though the Arboretum we saw this view of geese feeding on a field on the far side of the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking through the arboretum were many trees that were shedding their leaves. This is a panoramic view showing one tree that had lost more leaves then others: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
