Some technical details of the photographs by Paul L.G. Morris

Detailing the technical aspects of the photography of this versatile and creative freelance photographer:
"The unusual and the overlooked".

'E' Series Photographs:

These have been taken with a Canon EOS 7D which is an 18 Mpixel DSLR camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex). Although this produces high quality JPEG files, RAW images (which give maximum quality) are mostly available. Note that such quality cannot be reflected on a web page. Pictures taken with this camera can be identified by a prefix of 'E' in the filename, the next two digits identifying the year, for example E09_01234.

Paul uses mostly one of two lenses: A 15-85mm zoom with image stabilisation - this is not a cheap 'kit' lens, and a 100mm f2.8 macro lens. Occasionally a 75-300mm is used.

'D' Series Photographs:

These have been taken with a Canon EOS 350D which is an 8 Mpixel DSLR camera. Many photographs have been taken using Canon RAW (CR2) as well as the usual JPEG format. RAW is used to get the maximum possible quality from this camera. Pictures taken with this camera can be identified by a prefix of 'D' in the filename, the next two digits identifying the year, for example, D08_01234.

Paul uses mostly one of two lenses: A 17-85mm zoom with image stabilisation - again, this is not a cheap 'kit' lens, and a 100mm f2.8 macro lens (used for the above photo). Occasionally a 75-300mm is used.

'I' Series Photographs:

Paul always carries a small compact camera (a 5 Mpixel Canon Ixus 500) to ensure that he 'never misses a shot'. Although not up to the high resolution of more modern cameras, quality A4 size prints can be achieved: a section of one photograph was chosen for the cover picture of the magazine 'Country Smallholding' (January 2009). Photos from this camera can be identified with an 'I', followed by a 2 digit year, such as I07_01234.

The photographs:

Paul believes that, where possible, the picture should be made at the taking stage - this is much more enjoyable than sitting at a computer using Photoshop. However, just as in the days of using a darkroom, one adjusted parameters at the processing and printing stages (for example: adjusting the contrast and cropping), he recognises that it is necessary to do the equivalent for the digital image.

Should you feel the need for a print or digital file for a specific purpose, contact Paul to discuss your requirements; he will be pleased to help.
